Date: 27 July 2025

Location: UNITEN Mosque

Yayasan Universiti Multimedia (YUM) is honored to announce that it has been awarded Second Place in  Selangor’s district in IPT Zakat Collection category by Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS). This recognition reflects YUM’s enduring commitment to service, transparency, and the welfare of the Multimedia University (MMU) community.

Since its establishment in 2009, YUM has worked to ensure that students — particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds — have access to the resources and support necessary to pursue their studies with confidence. In 2011, YUM was formally appointed as Penolong Amil IPT by LZS, a role entrusted only to institutions with the capability and integrity to collect and distribute zakat in accordance with Shariah principles.

A Trusted Role with Measurable Impact

In this capacity, YUM:

  • Conducted zakat collection cycles every month ensuring consistent and timely assistance for eligible asnaf students.
  • Disbursement of allocated zakat funds directly to verified recipients under the guidance of LZS.

In 2024, YUM and MMU were also recognised with the “Anugerah Peratus Peningkatan Kutipan Tertinggi” in the Anugerah Skim Potongan Gaji Penolong Amil IPT sub-category, further affirming the effectiveness of our zakat collection initiatives. These achievements speak to the sustained trust and confidence placed in YUM by both LZS and our university community.

Beyond Zakat Distribution

YUM’s service extends far beyond the administration of zakat funds. Our activities as Penolong Amil IPT include awareness programmes such as the Ceramah Ihya’ Ramadan and Pengurusan Wang Tidak Patuh Syariah talks, festive assistance distribution during Iftar Perdana, and community engagement initiatives including the Zakat Akhir Sanah Campaign. These efforts ensure that the principles of generosity and compassion remain active and visible in our campus life.

In addition, YUM administers a range of scholarships — including the Ibnu Haitam, Jawhar, and the newly launched Ghauth Jasmon Postgraduate Scholarship — benefiting more than 200 active scholars annually with a total payout of over RM6 million each year.

A Shared Achievement

This award is not solely YUM’s accomplishment — it is a shared success with every contributor, staff member, and volunteer who has played a role in our mission. Each contribution represents more than monetary assistance; it embodies hope, opportunity, and the reassurance that no student in our care will face their challenges alone.

“This recognition affirms our belief that when an institution’s work is guided by compassion, integrity, and accountability, the results will always speak for themselves. We will continue to serve our students and community with the same dedication that has brought us here today.”YUM Management

YUM extends its sincere appreciation to Lembaga Zakat Selangor for this honor, and to our community for their continued trust. With this recognition, we renew our pledge to strengthen our service and to remain steadfast in supporting our students — not only in their academic journey, but in their personal growth and wellbeing.
